Hoop Shoot Contest Recap
The Elks National Free Throw Shoot Contest is a long- running youth basketball program sponsored by BPOE. It is one of the organizations biggest community service projects, aimed at teaching kids the value of hard work, discipline and the perseverance thru the simple but challenging skill free-throw shooting.
The contest starts at the local lodge level (Manchester, CT lodge #1893). Winners from six groups (boys and girls within three different age groups)advance to district, then state, then regional, and finally to the national finals in Chicago. The national champions are honored each year with their names engraved in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.
This Year’s Manchester Lodge # 1893 hosted six contestants with four winners advancing to district level. Contestants came from as far away as Riverside, RI to participate in the Manchester Lodge #1893 contest. The event also welcomed Manchester, CT Mayor, the Honorable Jay Moran, who came by to support and motivate the contestants.
